Cardboard Boxes or Crates — which is best for packing?
For moving house or other large to medium-sized moves, we recommend to hire crates (strong plastic boxes) for a more organised and cost-effective move, but if you’re not moving a huge amount of stuff — e.g. flat or small apartment — you might prefer cardboard boxes.
Boxes for Storage
Cardboard boxes are handy for keeping things in storage after moving, but if you prefer crates for storage, we have these for sale as well.
Crate Hire for Business
For office moves or commercial moves, crate hire is most suitable as it saves your business the cost of disposing of cardboard. You can also be assured that fragile equipment can be transported more safely using crates.

Advantages of Crates over Cardboard Boxes
- Crates are stronger and sturdier than cardboard, so can be stacked higher in the van or truck. In a large move, making the most of space in the van makes sense.
- Unlike boxes which would have to be disposed of, crates are returned when used.
- Crates are more environmentally friendly than boxes.
- Crates are easier to grip and carry than boxes, in part because they are the same shape and size.
- Cardboard boxes could get wet if it’s raining, or could fall apart under heavy weight. Crates don’t have these issues because they are stronger and more durable than boxes.
- Crates are lidded so don’t need to be taped or fastened as boxes do.
- You can stack crates in your new home while you’re waiting to unpack.
- Crates can be nested in each other when empty, so don’t take up too much space when storing to be collected.

Crates for Hire
Prices quoted below are not including VAT, and are for delivery and collection of crates in the Dublin area. (Contact us for prices outside of Dublin).
Crate Delivery & Collection
- Contact us saying how many crates you need, for how long. (The lowest price is for holding the crates up to 7 days).
- Crates are delivered to your door (see note on delivery)
- We will need a form to be signed and to see some ID before handing over the crates.
- Payment for crate rental is in advance.
- We return on the day agreed to collect the crates (normally 7 days later).

Prices of Crate Rental
Crates are rented up to 7 days and the price is €1 per crate, per week.
If they’re needed for longer than 7 days, the rental increases per crate per new week.

Collection of Crates
- Crates will normally be collected 7 days later.
- If crates will not be ready to collect at the agreed day and time, please contact us with 24 hours notice — by text to 087 – 210 9915 or [email protected].
- Crates kept longer than the agreed time will have to be charged extra.
- Please make sure that all labels are removed from crates. The charge for crates missing or damaged will be €30 per crate.

Boxes for Sale
Cardboard boxes are ideal if you’re moving a small apartment or flat, or you don’t plan on unpacking everything immediately, or want to keep items packed in storage.
We have quality cardboard boxes available and ready to deliver to your door.
- Boxes are double-wall for extra strength.
- Normal delivery times will be Monday to Friday. See note on delivery.

Packing Supplies
Buy Packing Materials
As well as boxes or crates, we can add packing supplies such as tape and bubble wrap to your delivery.
Having a plentiful supply bubble wrap is especially recommended for moving delicate or fragile items. Having more than enough tape is recommended as well. These are packing supplies that people often run out of when packing as they underestimate how much they will need.

Note on Delivery
Delivery Times
Orders made before 12 noon should be delivered the next day at the latest.
Orders made after 12 noon, delivery might be the day after.
